EOT (end of train) frequencies can be used by the railfan to listen for the approach of freight trains. Their quick “squawk” noise can be heard for a few miles or so depending on radio conditions. This quick burst of information is sent from the rear of the train to the locomotive. It tells the train crew the brake pipe pressure at the end of the train.
